Last month I decided to take the plunge and borrow my friend's juicer. I was simply curious if I'd really enjoy the process of making homemade fruit and vegetable juices; and of course, I'm always on the hunt for healthy alternatives that make sense within my lifestyle. I also wanted to confirm that I wouldn't get bored of drinking juice on the regular before considering getting a machine of my own.
So over the past few weeks I've been really committed to testing a variety of flavor combinations from Juice Recipes, and wanted to share a few of my favorites with you. These are seriously very tasty:
• Apples - 5 medium
• Celery - 2 stalk, large
Apple - 1 medium
• Kiwifruit - 2 fruit
• Lemon (with rind) - 1/4 fruit
• Lime (with rind) - 1/4 fruit
• Orange (peeled) - 1 fruit
• Pineapple - 1/2 fruit
• Apples (granny smith) - 4 medium
• Celery - 3 stalk, large
• Kale - 2 leaf
• Lemon (peeled) - 1 fruit
• Spinach - 4 cup
I'd say the hardest part about being intentional with juicing is finding a schedule that works. The juice only lasts for three days, so staying consistent with buying and prepping the produce, making the juice, and storing it takes some planning. Finding fresh fruits and vegetables that are affordable in bulk can also be a bit of a struggle, so it's definitely a commitment if you're looking to consistently supplement meals.
Overall, I couldn't be happier that I officially started juicing! Since day one, I've noticed that I've had significantly more energy than before, and that my skin has been much healthier. These differences have been a wake up call by helping me realize how little fruits and vegetables I was previously consuming! It's also comforting to know that I'm preventing all types of sickness from the extra nutrition. And honestly, I'm a little shocked at how fast I've been craving the fresh juice. My longtime love affair with junk food has been wearing off––which is especially convenient around the holidays.
Our refrigerator is currently stocked with juice for the next few days. It's really nice knowing that when I wake up in the morning, my super healthy breakfast is already waiting for me. Have any of you done a full-on juice cleanse, or even just juiced here and there? I'd really encourage you to try it however it fits your lifestyle. It's pretty exhilarating and serves as good discipline.
